I was about to feature someone else for this part. For some reason, serendipity as you may call it, I bumped into former Ginebra player Wilmer Ong. I didn’t realize that it’s been years since he last played for the PBA, how time flies so fast. So I asked him if he could be my subject for today’s post, then he said No. Of course he was kidding.
PBF: what keeps you busy these days?
WO: Bum, as bahay lang. Hindi, actually, business. Itinuloy lang namin ng wife ko yung business ng mother-in-law ko, it’s on organic fertilizer, sa Rosario, Batangas.
PBF: what were the major adjustments that you’ve done after your basketball career?
WO: Madami, unang-una financial di ba, kailangan mo i-support yung family mo. Then yung physical activities, hinahanap hanap mo din yun.
PBF: How many kids do you have now by the way?
WO: 4 na.
PBF: Do you still get to meet your former teammates?
WO: Very occasional. Minsan sila Noli (Locsin), minsan sila Paolo (Mendoza), o sila Marlou (Aquino).
PBF: Oh yeah, you last played for the Realtors
WO: Oo Sta. Lucia, pero nakalimutan ko na kelan pa yun. 2004? 2005? I forgot.
PBF: Do you miss playing basketball?
WO: Alam mo, I’ve learned to accept reality. Darating din talaga yung panahon na tama na.
Siyempre hinahanap hanap ko pa ren maglaro.
PBF: Lastly, can I take a picture of you?
WO: Laki ko na eh. yung luma na lang. Hindi, sige ok lang.
Then he gamely posed.
